About a decade ago EVERYTHING was because of El Niño/La Nina.
The rain fell extra hard – “oh thats El Niño boy.”
One landslide too many up in the hills – “yes mi chile, El Ninyo naw ramp enuh. CNN mi did a wach iit pan weh day yah.”
U sneezed vigorously – yeah, u guessed it: “El Niño did it”
Your car had a flat, ur ex-girl say’s she’s pregnant, u got up and didn’t feel like going to work – …. why the hell not? “El Niño”
Nowadays, its as if the phenomena never existed. You notice you never hear it mentioned on the news anymore? You don’t hear opposition politicians harping on it. 6th form Geo teachers aren’t marking you down because you didn’t choose to write about it, her favourite topic on the final paper. (Yeah, so what if I’m venting?)
I wonder if its been discredited as a theory and nobody told us, the mass hysteria loving audience about it? Or, is it that the persons in the media responsible for pushing the idea jumped ship when they realised that there was more and better hysteria to be created if they supported a theory that the whole world’s environment is having havoc visited upon it constantly (Global Warming) as opposed every other year which is the case with El Niño?
